Occupational Therapists are health professionals who help people of all ages participate in everyday activities safely and independently. They assess an individual’s physical, cognitive, and emotional needs, then create tailored intervention plans to enhance functional skills and support overall well-being. Through adaptive strategies, therapeutic techniques, and environmental modifications, occupational therapists empower clients to engage in meaningful activities and improve their quality of life.
Physiotherapists, on the other hand, specialise in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of physical conditions and movement disorders. They focus on restoring mobility, reducing pain, and improving overall physical function through exercise prescription, manual therapy, and techniques such as stretching, strengthening, or electrotherapy. Physiotherapists help people recover from injuries, manage chronic conditions, and enhance performance in daily activities and sports.
An Occupational Therapist helps adults improve their independence and ability to perform daily activities such as dressing, cooking, and working, especially after an injury, surgery, or illness, by providing personalised strategies and adaptive techniques. An Occupational Therapist can support children by assessing how their disability affects their daily activities, such as play, learning, self-care, and social participation. They provide tailored strategies, therapeutic interventions, and assistive equipment to build the child’s capacity and promote developmental progress. Occupational Therapists also work with families and support networks to create structured routines and environments that meet the child’s functional needs.
Working with someone to increase the independence and capacity with daily living skills and assessments (as an example, home safety, functional capacity, assistive technology and home modifications).
Occupational Therapy can assist in managing arthritis pain by working on improving joint mobility, offering adaptive techniques for daily tasks, and recommending assistive devices to help reduce stress on the joints and support overall function.
PADLs (Personal Activities of Daily Living) refer to essential tasks such as bathing, dressing, and eating, which occupational therapists help individuals improve or adapt to promote independence, especially for those with physical or cognitive challenges. Short Term Restorative Care (STRC) is a government-supported program that helps older adults regain independence and function after illness, injury, or hospitalisation. The program provides short-term, goal-oriented therapy — usually up to eight weeks — to help you recover strength, mobility, and confidence so you can continue living safely at home.
At Pursuit Allied Health, our physiotherapists and occupational therapists deliver STRC programs across Adelaide, offering in-home sessions, exercise programs, and safety assessments tailored to your needs.
We work closely with your care team to ensure your recovery plan supports your lifestyle and long-term well-being.
A Functional Capacity Assessment is a detailed evaluation of how a person’s disability impacts their ability to complete daily activities and engage in meaningful tasks. It identifies functional limitations, strengths, and the supports required to build capacity and improve participation.
The Support at Home program provides ongoing therapy and assistance to help you live independently and safely at home.
Our team of Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists develop customised plans that may include mobility training, falls prevention, assistive technology recommendations, and home safety modifications.
Support at Home is designed to help people maintain confidence, reduce the risk of falls, and continue participating in meaningful activities.
Whether you need short-term recovery after illness or long-term support, our team provides practical strategies to improve your comfort and quality of life at home.
