Occupational Therapists are health professionals who assist individuals to perform everyday activities. Occupational Therapists work with individuals of all ages to assess their physical, cognitive, and emotional needs, and they develop customised intervention plans to enhance functional skills, promote independence, and support overall wellbeing. Through therapeutic techniques, adaptive strategies, and environmental modifications, Occupational Therapists empower clients to engage in meaningful activities and improve their quality of life.

Occupational Therapy Services include;

  • Reviewing and modifying the home environment to increase safety; including organising installation of grab rails and ramps and prescribing equipment to increase independence.
  • Identification of hazards to reduce falls risk and minimise falls.
  • Completion of Functional Capacity Assessments and Functional Capacity Evaluations, which are used to determine an individual’s ability to perform daily activities and work-related tasks. These assessments help to establish the impact of disabilities or injuries on a person’s functional abilities, guiding appropriate supports, services and rehabilitation.
  • Activity of Daily Living (ADL) assessments and retraining to ensure safety and increase independence.
  • Providing recommendations for equipment and adaptive aids to provide ease with daily tasks like showering, dressing, toileting and domestic tasks.
  • Assessing bed mobility, transfers and mobility and write up a suitable mobility care plan.
  • Prescribing mobility aids and equipment to increase safety and independence with transfers and walking, such as walkers, frames and wheelchairs.
  • Reviewing car transfers and providing recommendations on safe techniques and any equipment that may aid this.
  • Assessing suitability and safety using electric mobility aids such as electric wheelchairs and scooters/gophers. Additionally, we can provide training on use of electric mobility aids.
  • Individualised seating assessments where we can recommend the best options around wheelchairs, recliner chairs, dining chairs, showering and toileting chairs.
  • Reviewing and prescribing cushions and equipment to ensure adequate pressure area care.
  • Providing a range of in-home rehabilitation post illness or injury including upper limb therapy, fine motor and gross motor training, mobility and transfer training and balance and coordination rehabilitation.
  • Cognitive assessments and therapy such as; interventions for memory, problem solving, planning, orientation and money management.
